Jaipur: The BJP govt’s most ambitious Ram Jal Setu project is set to enter its first phase, as the principal chief conservator of forests Tuesday granted the final No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the construction of an elevated canal on Banas River. With this clearance, the govt is ready to initiate the canal construction aimed at carrying Chambal water from the Banas basin to several parched districts in eastern Rajasthan. The project will benefit 17 districts, with the first phase covering areas like Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Bharatpur, and Alwar. The elevated canal, 2,280 metre in length, will begin near Pihilunda village in Dausa and connect to Gughata village in Chauth Ka Barwara tehsil of Sawai Madhopur, forming a critical water corridor over the Banas River.Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said the canal will help transport water from rivers such as Jakham, Mahi, and Parwan via the Banas, ensuring supply to far-flung regions including Beelwada and Eranaka Barkheda. The project also includes the development of feeder lines from the Chambal basin to Alwar.This phase alone received a budgetary allocation of Rs 9,400 crore, with construction already underway under Package-2. The govt aims to resolve drinking water and irrigation crises in the region while creating a supplementary transport route connecting Kota, Lalkheri, and Mansarovar via Dausa and Sawai Madhopur.
