Jaipur: The state transport department is planning to launch a statewide 24/7 complaint control room, allowing residents to call in grievances about its services at any time. Officials said the mechanism aims to improve transparency, strengthen accountability and give the public a dedicated platform to raise concerns.Officials said that similar attempts by issuing a WhatsApp number for registering complaints were started at the regional transport office Jaipur (I), but no state-level mechanism was developed until now.“We know that overloading in commercial vehicles, violations of the Motor Vehicles Act and discrepancies in transport-related services are happening across the state, but not all issues are getting resolved. We are now working to develop a statewide mechanism where the public can join to bring change in the system,” said a senior official from the transport department.According to officials, the aim is to involve citizens, who can report or send alerts to the department on a real-time basis, on a common telephone number, through which the department can alert the nearest flying squad to act on the complaint.Officials added that the system will be developed such that all alerts are sent to a state-level control room, from where the inputs will be shared with local-level teams. They added that the department is also aiming to control corruption within the department with this system, so that public-related work gets done as per the norms.“This process will help us improve road safety, as complaints regarding violations in vehicles, including modifications, can be curbed, which do not get reported, especially from remote areas at present. Modified and overloaded vehicles are a key cause of concern for road safety, as it can lead to accidents,” the official added.
