New May 26 deadline set forRaj govt to decide on SI exam

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday gave the state govt a final chance to decide on whether to cancel the 2021 SI recruitment exam or continue with the selection process by May 26, failing which the court would impose a financial cost for non-compliance of its order. The court had earlier set May 15 as the deadline for the govt to convey its decision. However, the govt cited India-Pak border conflict for being unable to conduct a crucial meeting that was scheduled on May 13 and requested for a four-week extension. The court of Justice Sameer Jain, unhappy with the govt’s request, set May 26 as the new deadline, warning it of financial repercussions if it failed to take a decision. In his application, additional advocate general Vigyan Shah said the govt could not hold the sub-committee meeting, scheduled for May 13, to decide on the matter as several ministers were deployed in border districts because of the border conflict. A minister’s illness too resulted in the delay, he said, adding that a new sub-committee meeting has been set for May 21.The counsel for petitioners, Harendra Neel, alleged the govt of being indecisive despite the decision makers favouring cancellation of the selection process.
