Jaipur: Rajasthan mines department Tuesday directed field officials to conduct regular inspections of department-empanelled weighbridges and check vehicles following complaints of serious irregularities in the issuance of e-Ravanna and transit passes. In a letter issued Tuesday, superintendent mining engineer, Jaipur Circle, N S Shaktawat said complaints had been received through the department’s new portal regarding irregularities by mine holders and dealers at weighbridges.According to the letter, one of the major irregularities involved illegally dispatching minerals in excess of the weight mentioned in the e-Ravanna or transit pass issued for mineral transportation.TOI, in its report Tuesday, ‘Mining dept accused of issuing online transit passes for overload Bajri trucks’, highlighted alleged violations of prescribed weight limits and alleged issuance of online transit passes for overloaded Bajri (river sand) trucks.Welcoming the move, a stakeholder, Kamleshwar Singh, said, “This will not only prevent accidents but will also increase the life of roads where they frequently operate.”The order also said another reported practice was parking a single vehicle at a weighbridge and changing its registration number plate to obtain multiple Ravannas or transit passes, the department said. The department termed the irregularities serious and directed officials to take strict action against mine holders and dealers found violating rules. The directions have been issued to mining engineers in Jaipur, Alwar, Sikar and Jhunjhunu and assistant mining engineers in Tonk, Dausa, Neem Ka Thana and Kotputli. The officials have been asked to follow the minimum monthly inspection targets for weighbridges and vehicles prescribed by the state govt in its Oct 6, 2026, letter. The field offices have also been directed to send inspection reports to the Jaipur Circle office by 8 am every Monday. “Where irregularities are detected during inspections, officials have been instructed to initiate action under the applicable rules,” said a senior official.Mining expert and activist Kishore Kumawat said, “The department has launched its software recently and these flaws have appeared. A thorough system should be developed to avoid such leakages.”
