Times News Network Alwar: One day after workers’ protests turned violent in Noida, over 1,500 labourers of Motherson India Private Limited struck work outside the company’s gate in the Pathredi industrial area of Bhiwadi Tuesday, demanding a salary hike and changes in working conditions. The strike comes a day after workers demonstrated at Suprajit Engineering in Bhiwadi, where police cane-charged women employees to disperse the crowd and took several employees into custody. That standoff lasted about five hours and ended after a settlement between the management, contractor and workers.Locals said worker unrest over salary hikes, inflation and working conditions have been reported in Bhiwadi and nearby industrial areas over several days now and no official settlement has been reported yet.Police from Chopanki, Bhiwadi and Tapukara reached the spot after being alerted, and Tapukara-Bhiwadi tehsildar Shaitan Singh and Bhiwadi DSP Kailash Chaudhary also arrived. Singh said talks were being facilitated between the management and workers.Workers said their five-point charter includes a “reasonable salary hike,” improved working hours, action against senior officials allegedly involved in misconduct, assault and threats, and steps to prevent such behaviour. They alleged they are harassed with threats of being fired.Chaudhary said police had been deployed and efforts were on to facilitate talks.
