JMC junior engineer held accepting Rs 80,000 bribe

Jaipur: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Monday arrested a junior engineer of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 after demanding Rs 2 lakh from a property owner to allow construction work to continue without interference.The accused, Sanjay Kumar Bairwa, posted as a Junior Engineer in the office of Deputy Commissioner, Civil Lines Zone, JMC, was caught red-handed during a trap laid by ACB’s Special Unit-I, Jaipur.According to DIG Rameshwar Singh, the complainant alleged that accused Sanjay Kumar and Class-IV employee Deendayal visited the construction site on June 3, threatening to seal the property and halt construction. The complainant state that the duo demanded Rs 2 lakh, claiming the money was for themselves and the then Deputy Commissioner Sunil Bairwa.Following the complaint, ACB conducted a demand verification on June 4, during which Bairwa allegedly reduced the demand to Rs 1 lakh and Deendayal allegedly accepted Rs 20,000 on Bairwa’s instructions.Investigators said Bairwa later demanded the remaining Rs 80,000 from the co-complainant in exchange for not sealing his father’s property, removing the seal and allowing construction to continue.According to ACB, Bairwa unlocked his car and instructed the co-complainant to place Rs 80,000 inside the vehicle.The trap team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Prashant Kaushik, recovered the tainted cash from the car’s dashboard. Officials said the chemical wash of the dashboard turned pink, confirming contact with the treated currency notes.ACB also recovered Rs 27,400 in cash from Bairwa’s wallet. Preliminary investigation revealed that the complainant’s file was pending with the accused. Meanwhile, ACB is probing Deendayal’s role in the matter.
