Jaipur: A jeweller was allegedly assaulted by four unidentified men and robbed of gold, silver and cash in Jaipur’s Khorabisal area Friday night in what police suspect was a pre-planned robbery based on prior surveillance of the victim’s movements. The incident occurred around 9pm near Nangal Ladi bus stand when Shankarlal Sharma, owner of Shri Shyam Jewellers, was returning home on his motorcycle after closing his shop.According to police, the accused intercepted Sharma’s motorcycle using a car before four men armed with sticks and metal pipes got out and tried to snatch the bag he was carrying. When Sharma resisted, they allegedly attacked him repeatedly, striking his head, hands and other parts of the body before fleeing with the bag.Police said the stolen bag contained around 8kg of silver, some gold ornaments and cash. Sharma sustained multiple injuries, including a head injury, and was admitted to a private hospital on Kalwar Road. His condition is reported to be stable.A case has been registered and multiple police teams have been formed to identify and arrest the accused. Checkpoints were set up across Jaipur city, adjoining rural areas and major exit routes following the robbery, but the suspects remained at large till Saturday evening.Investigators suspect the assailants had been tracking the jeweller’s routine before carrying out the crime. Police are examining CCTV footage from Sharma’s shop, the route he took home and nearby establishments to trace the movement of the accused before and after the robbery. Several suspects have been detained for questioning.Police said Sharma had been taking jewellery home every night since his shop was burgled about seven months ago. The silver allegedly robbed Friday had been purchased in Jaipur earlier that day. Investigators are probing whether the attackers knew about his daily routine and the fresh consignment, and whether they received prior information about his movements before executing the robbery.
