Jaipur: After Jhalana and Amagarh, Maila Bagh is set to become Jaipur’s third leopard sanctuary, which is set to open for public from June 5. The opening will coincide with World Environment Day. Spread across the Maila Bagh and Beed Papad forest areas, the safari features newly developed tracks, enhanced visitor facilities, and restored grasslands to support wildlife conservation.An official said, “Maila Bagh encompasses a portion of the Nahargarh Sanctuary, which boasts substantial forest cover and a thriving leopard population. We developed motorable tracks covering approximately 15 square kilometre for tourists, augmented existing waterholes, and created new ones. Access to the safari will be through Vidyadhar Nagar, with two main routes available for exploration — one from Maila Bagh to Kishan Bagh and another connecting the New Biological Park to Audhi Ramsagar.“The Nahargarh leopard safari spans 5,240 hectare and currently has 10 registered vehicles for guided tours. Approximately 19 leopards roam freely within this reserve. To replicate the success of the leopard safaris in Jaipur, the forest department is working on preserving and enhancing other smaller forest patches with the dual aim of conservation and revenue generation. A forest officer said, “With leopards now sharing the spotlight alongside tigers, additional safaris in various forest areas are in the pipeline.” The Jhalana and Amagarh leopard safaris have become major attractions for wildlife enthusiasts.
