Jaipur: The indefinite hunger strike by Jaipur City Transport Services Ltd (JCTSL) employees at Shaheed Smarak entered its 11th day, Monday, with workers warning of a citywide blockade if their demands are not met soon. The employees’ union has given the administration time till Tuesday, stating that if their 14-point charter of demands is not addressed, they will resort to a ‘chakka jam’ Wednesday, which could disrupt traffic and public transport across the city.Union president Babulal Nyangli said talks with Directorate of Local Bodies (DLB) secretary Ravi Jain were positive. “Another meeting is likely Tuesday. If no solution is reached, we will go ahead with a blockade Wednesday,” he said.Protesting employee Ramkunwar Bishnoi said staff have continued working on buses while on hunger strike to avoid inconvenience to the public. “But if there is no positive response in the next two days, we will have no option but to call for a chakka jam,” he added. The workers’ demands include implementation of the Gratuity Act, purchase of new buses, recruitment for vacant posts, payment of overtime, transfer of pending NPS/GPF funds, release of seniority lists for promotions, and proper maintenance of buses. They have raised concerns over alleged high-handedness by some depot managers and restrictions on employee leave.Union leaders said repeated discussions have failed to yield results, increasing frustration among staff.
