Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation CMD Vaibhav Galriya said immediate priority is the Mansarovar-200 Feet Bypass Crossing stretch, which is expected to open by June 2027.“However, the construction works between Badi Chaupar and Transport Nagar extension would take around two more years.,” Galriya said.

The first Jaipur Metro service, between Mansarovar and Chandpole, was flagged off by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje on June 3, 2015. The extension up to Badi Chaupar was inaugurated by former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sept 23, 2020.On Friday, chief secretary V Srinivas inspected the proposed Galta Gate station site and launched tunnel boring machine operations for the underground section between Galta Gate and Badi Chaupar. The tunnel will enter the Walled City from Delhi Road and pass beneath the UNESCO World Heritage zone.“The 3.5 km tunnel between Galta-ji and Badi Chaupar is a major step towards the extension of Jaipur Metro Line 1. This tunnel digging work is expected to get over in the next five to six months,” Srinivas said.

The 2028 target means Line 1 will be completed nearly 13 years after its debut, linking southwest Jaipur with the north-eastern transport corridor through the city’s core.Galriya said heritage impact concerns have reduced because the alignment is underground, not elevated. Earlier, UNESCO expressed concern over JMRC initiating a project without conducting the mandatory heritage impact assessment.“In fact, JMRC has dropped the earlier proposal to construct a metro station at Ramganj Chaupar inside the Walled City. Now both Galta Gate and Transport Nagar metro stations will come up on Delhi Road,” he said.FOR GPHX, IF NEEDED
