Jaipur: The state education department has initiated preparations for training teachers so they can provide students with information about better career options. A 10-hour ‘Career Guide’ teacher training module has been made available on the DIKSHA portal, which teachers are required to complete by Dec 4. The online training allows teachers to complete the module at their own convenience and is aimed at equipping teachers to guide students regarding higher education, employment and various career paths.Officials said that the progress regarding the training will be reviewed regularly at the district level. “Currently, career guidance facilities are available in private schools or with external experts who charge a fee. In govt schools, students are not able to get such help and for them this training is a significant initiative towards preparing teachers to provide career guidance to students. Data concerning the number of teachers who have completed the training and their progress will be compiled and recorded district-wise,” said a senior official.Officials added that the lack of career guidance is a key reason why many students opt for private schools.“This initiative is likely to help over 40 lakh students studying in Classes 10 to 12 across the state,” added the official. Officials added that emphasis is being laid on providing employment-related information along with skill development to the students from the school level itself, which will prepare them for the job market.Last year, the state education department also started a portal, https://cg.rajasthan.gov.in, for career guidance and counselling for students from Classes 9 to 12, which allows students to create CVs, seek internships and undertake vocational training as part of their career guidance.
