Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) claimed to have cleared more than 7,000 tonnes of garbage during Operation Clean Sweep 2.0 Thursday. However, a day after the drive, garbage heaps were visible in several parts of the city, including C-Scheme, Ramganj, Gangauri Bazaar and the narrow lanes of Brahmpuri in the Walled City.Areas around govt offices also continued to report heaps of waste, raising questions about routine sanitation arrangements.Councillors blamed the situation on a shortage of sanitation workers and poor planning, saying a one-day drive would make little difference without regular cleaning.Mahesh Chand Yadav, councillor from Ward 82, said, “It is good that intensive cleaning was carried out, but regular sanitation is equally important. The drive was conducted Thursday, but hoppers did not turn up in most areas Friday. Garbage heaps have already started building up at several places.”Jitendra Sharma, councillor from Ward 93, said, “A one-day campaign will not improve the sanitation system. The corporation needs to focus on regular cleaning. Several areas are facing a shortage of workers, and sanitation arrangements are not being managed properly.”Mohammad Zakaria, councillor from Ward 114 in Ramganj, said, “The narrow lanes need special cleaning arrangements. Although cleaning was carried out during the drive, garbage started piling up again the next day. Regular movement of garbage collection hoppers is also essential.”Gajnafar Ali, councillor from Ward 113, said, “The municipal corporation needs to put a permanent system in place. If garbage starts accumulating on roads and in lanes immediately after a special drive, it points to gaps in routine sanitation. Adequate staff deployment and regular monitoring are essential.”
