Jaisalmer: Four people, including a couple and their son, were killed in a head-on collision between a car and a pickup vehicle on National Highway-68 near Harsani Phanta in Barmer district Tuesday afternoon.One person travelling in the pickup was injured and is undergoing treatment at the district hospital. The accident occurred when the victims were travelling from Jaisalmer towards Barmer in an i10 car. The victims have been identified as Baburam (39), his wife Baby (34), and their son Vivaan (4), all residents of Jhalamalia village in the Jodhpur district. Virendra (22), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was also travelling in the car and died in the crash. Eyewitness accounts described the vehicles as “completely mangled” following the violent impact. According to police reports, the collision happened when a speeding pickup truck, which was loaded with sacks of paint, veered into the path of the oncoming car. The force of the crash scattered paint across the roadway, contributing to the chaotic scene that unfolded in the aftermath. Emergency services were promptly notified, and police rushed to the scene, where a large crowd had already gathered. Rescue operations were carried out with the help of locals, who assisted the Gramin Thana police in extracting the bodies trapped inside the wreckage. While four individuals perished in the car, one person from the pickup sustained injuries and was transported to the district hospital for treatment. Police were investigating the cause of the accident as both vehicles were reported to be travelling at significant speeds. Additional District Collector Rajendra Singh Chandawat and Deputy Superintendent Ramesh Kumar Sharma visited the district hospital to gather information. The bodies were placed in the mortuary, and police were working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the crash.
