Jaipur: Former Congress MLA Sanyam Lodha Monday moved the Rajasthan High Court with a contempt petition against the state govt and the State Election Commission (SEC), alleging wilful disobedience of court directions mandating timely elections to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). The petition seeks initiation of contempt proceedings against the respondents, arguing that despite repeated directions from the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court, authorities have failed to conduct the long-pending local body elections, violating the constitutional mandate for democratic local governance. The controversy stems from a batch of petitions, including Lodha’s PIL, challenging delays in conducting local body elections and completing the delimitation exercise.
