JAIPUR: The first phase of the Census 2027 will take place in Rajasthan from May 16 to June 14, focusing on house listing and house enumeration, officials said Friday.Between May 1 and May 15, residents will have the option to self-enumerate. Nearly 1.60 lakh enumerators and supervisors will collect data through a set of 33 questions, including household details such as building numbers, water sources, household composition, name, sex and caste of the head of the household, cereal consumed in the household, fuel used for cooking, and access to various amenities.The central govt aims to make this phase fully digital and participatory with the introduction of the self-enumeration facility. The self-enumeration portal can be accessed via desktop or smartphone through https://se.census.gov.in.Director of Census Operations Bishnu Charan Mallick said the first phase of fieldwork will continue until June 14, during which enumerators will conduct door-to-door data collection. Under the house listing exercise, all buildings, census houses, and families in the state will be identified and systematically listed.Mallick said the house listing exercise is intended to build a reliable framework for the second phase (in Feb 2027) — population enumeration (PE) — so that no individual or household is missed.He added that self-enumeration is designed to offer working families, or those who prefer convenience, the option to submit their details digitally, though field verification by enumerators will remain compulsory even after online submission.Mallick urged citizens to cooperate by providing accurate and complete information and advised them to verify the identity cards of officials before sharing any details. He said each enumerator would cover a block having 150-200 houses with a population of 850.To provide a modern and digital format to Census 2027, the Census Management & Monitoring System (CMMS) portal, House-listing Block Creation (HLBC) web portal, and House-listing App (HLO app) have been developed.
