Ajmer: A fire broke out in a two-storey leather godown in the congested Mundri Mohalla area Thursday morning, triggering panic in the market. No casualties were reported. The godown, used for storing leather bags, shoes, slippers, and raw materials, caught fire on the second floor, reportedly due to a short circuit. The flames intensified quickly due to the presence of highly flammable materials such as leather, rexene, rubber, and chemicals. Shopkeepers in the area immediately shut their shops, informed the police, and tried to control the fire using extinguisher cylinders available in the market. Dense smoke filled the area, which houses several wholesale go-downs.Ashok Dulani, president of Mundri Mohalla Market Association, said, “Raw material is dumped inside the building. This morning, we saw smoke and flames from the second floor. Shopkeepers rushed to help before the fire brigade arrived.”Due to the narrow lanes, fire tenders reached the spot after nearly an hour, following assistance from the police in clearing the path. This incident marks the third major fire in Ajmer in recent weeks. On May 14, a fire broke out in a building at Ashaganj. Officials said fire NOCs for commercial setups had been verified by the municipal corporation.
