Jaipur: City police Wednesday arrested the trailer truck driver accused of mowing down a family of five waiting for a bus on Ajmer Road, killing a man and his three children while leaving his wife critically injured.Police also seized the trailer involved in the accident and detained its owner for questioning.DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma identified the arrested driver as Satveer Singh, 42, a resident of Ajdoli village in Didwana district. The deceased were identified as Chandra Prakash and his three children — Gopal, Ramesh and Deepak. Prakash’s wife, Kailashi, sustained severe injuries to both legs and is undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital Trauma Centre.The accident occurred around 8.45am Tuesday near the 200-Feet Bypass on the Jaipur-Delhi highway near Ajmer Road. Police said the truck (RJ19GF8085), travelling from Delhi towards Ajmer, was allegedly being driven at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner when it veered towards people waiting near the road divider for a bus.According to police, the family lived in a slum settlement near Gandhi Path and earned a living by making and selling brooms. They were on their way to their native village in Rajsamand district when the trailer allegedly ran them over.The FIR was lodged by Prakash’s brother-in-law, Pannalal Bagaria, 28, who alleged that the driver lost control of the speeding truck and crashed into the family waiting beside the road.Police also said the district collector has constituted a special inquiry comprising the ADM and the additional DCP (Traffic) to examine the factors that led to the accident and determine whether any road design issues contributed to the crash.
