Jaipur: Ward 138 councillor Deepika Sharma staged a sit-in at Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s Hawa Mahal-Amer zone office Monday, alleging inaction against illegal constructions despite her written complaint.Sharma alleged that construction was underway at several locations along Ramkunj Marg, Gangapole Road and Bandari Ka Nakat, but officials had taken no effective steps to stop the work.Construction allegedly continued at a site behind a hotel on Gangapole Road despite Sharma submitting a written complaint on Oct 28. She claimed a Shiva temple and stepwell were being covered to facilitate construction, with idols removed from the temple overnight and concrete slabs laid in the presence of security guards.“Construction is underway at three to four locations, including behind a hotel on Ramkunj Marg, Gangapole Road, and opposite a govt school at Bandari Ka Naka. The officials have not issued orders for sealing or taking action against these structures, which is why I am protesting,” Sharma said. She added that the sit-in would continue until deputy commissioner of the Hawa Mahal-Amer zone Santlal Makkad issued notices to stop the alleged illegal constructions and provided written orders for sealing and taking further action against them. This is not the first time Sharma has staged a protest at the zone office. Last month, she had also sat in protest over poor sanitation in her ward. Despite the suspension of 10 sanitation workers and an inspector, she had alleged that cleaning was not being carried out in the inner lanes, even as the main roads received attention. She had also raised concerns over broken sewer and drainage chamber covers and irregular visits by garbage collection vehicles.Attempts to contact Hawa Mahal-Amer zone deputy commissioner Santlal Makkad for his response were unsuccessful.
