Jaipur: Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)-based Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling became operational at the Manoharpura toll plaza on National Highway-48 Thursday, marking a key step towards barrierless toll collection in India. The project is part of the Indian Highways Management Company Limited’s (IHMCL) pilot MLFF initiative. The toll processing contract for the Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura plazas was awarded in Oct 2025. An NHAI official said, “Located on a key stretch of NH-48, the Manoharpura plaza is expected to handle nearly 8.8 million vehicles annually. The project covers a connected 100-km corridor from Shahjahanpur to Manoharpura and a 34-km stretch between Manoharpura and Daulatpur.” The MLFF system integrates ANPR cameras with FASTag-based RFID technology, enabling vehicles to pass through toll points without stopping. The barrierless system is expected to reduce travel time, fuel consumption and congestion while improving freight movement and lowering logistics costs. Vinod Easwaran, Managing Director and CEO of Jio Payments Bank Limited, said, “The transition to barrierless tolling represents a transformative shift in mobility infrastructure. By enabling seamless vehicle movement and improving logistics efficiency, MLFF will reduce transportation costs and enhance national productivity.” The project is being implemented by Jio Platforms Limited, while Tecsidel India Pvt Ltd has deployed the tolling software and instrumentation. Officials said the initiative would also pave the way for future GNSS-based road charging.
