Jaipur: The Assembly will launch year-long celebrations to mark its 75th anniversary on July 15, bringing together former and sitting legislators from across political parties to reflect on the House’s journey since its formation.Announcing the programme Friday, Speaker Vasudev Devnani said the inaugural event will see members from the first to the 16th Assembly discuss the evolution of parliamentary traditions, legislative practices and the changing role of the legislature.“The Assembly’s 75-year journey is not just the history of an institution but the story of the state’s democratic evolution. It reflects the aspirations of the people and the collective efforts of generations of legislators in shaping Rajasthan,” Devnani said.Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the programme, while Vice-President and Rajya Sabha chairman C P Radhakrishnan will attend the concluding function. Governor Haribhau Bagde, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and other dignitaries have also been invited.The celebrations will continue over the next year through four major programmes, including discussions by constitutional experts, parliamentarians and former legislators on democracy, legislative functioning and constitutional values.The opening event will also revisit 23 landmark laws passed by the Rajasthan Assembly, including those related to land reforms, abolition of jagirs and zamindari, Panchayati Raj, primary education, Lokayukta, the Right to Information and the Right to Public Services.“These legislations transformed Rajasthan in different phases of its history. The idea is to revisit their impact and understand how they continue to influence governance and public life,” Speaker said.Former Speakers Shantilal Chaplot, Sumitra Singh, Deependra Singh Shekhawat, Kailash Chand Meghwal and CP Joshi, along with former deputy speakers and legislators elected six or more times, will be felicitated during the event.Devnani said the celebrations are intended to connect the Assembly’s legacy with the younger generation.“This is an opportunity to showcase the strength of our democratic institutions and inspire young people to understand the importance of parliamentary traditions and public service,” he said.The inaugural function will be livestreamed on the Assembly’s official YouTube channel.
