Jaipur: The Met office in Jaipur said Monday that monsoon rainfall activity is likely to increase across the state from July 1, with many places in both eastern and western Rajasthan expected to receive moderate to heavy showers. Churu, Monday, received the highest single-day rainfall ever recorded in June, the Met office said. The previous record of 81.9mm rainfall, registered on June 24, 1988, was breached with 85.1mm of rainfall recorded Monday.Churu was followed by Kumher (Bharatpur), Taranagar (Churu), and Malakhera (Alwar), where 70mm of rainfall was recorded. Fatehpur (Sikar) and Bali (Pali) recorded 50mm, Buhana (Jhunjhunu) 40mm, and Ratangarh (Churu) 30mm. Rainfall varying from 20mm to 10mm was recorded at several other places in the state.“Usually, Churu is not known for good single-day monsoon rainfall. However, the rainfall Monday in Churu was the highest-ever for June in this district,” said a Met officer.The officer said the southwest monsoon is likely to gain momentum from Tuesday. “For the next week, rainfall activity is likely to increase, especially in Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, Ajmer, and Udaipur divisions. Also, during this period, many places in Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions are likely to get moderate to heavy showers,” the officer said.In Jaipur, a cloudy and humid afternoon followed, with a maximum temperature of 34.1 °C recorded. The Met office stated there is a possibility of thundershowers in Jaipur in the coming days, and a further dip in temperatures is likely.
