Jaipur: In a revised arrangement, Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is set to begin construction of the long-delayed Civil Lines railway overbridge over the railway tracks around Nov 15. Traffic movement on this RoB will start by Jan 2027.“The project is in its final stage. Once we launch the girders over the railway tracks, we will complete the road surface,” a senior JDA official said.JDA had submitted a girder-launching schedule to the railway authorities in Aug, seeking a limited traffic block to execute the most critical part of the work. The bridge, nearly 700 metres long, was launched in Jan 2021 with an 18-month deadline, but has missed multiple targets because of legal, technical and supply-side hurdles.Engineers said preparations have now been tightened to avoid another slippage. “We are assembling 15 girders and plan to install them together during the railway block. These girders will form the corridor directly above the railway tracks,” an engineer said. The overbridge is expected to ease movement for more than 20,000 vehicles daily over a busy rail section used by about 70 pairs of trains operating to and from Jaipur on the Delhi and Agra routes. Once ready, the Civil Lines RoB will become the fourth such crossing between Gandhi Nagar railway station and Jaipur Junction, after Tonk Puliya, Bais Godam Puliya and Ajmer Road Puliya.“An underpass below Rajmahal Palace Junction on Sardar Patel Marg is also being built to support smoother movement around the RoB,” another engineer said. Officials said coordinated execution during the block will be crucial for delivery.
