JAIPUR: Two jeweller brothers were shot at and beaten with iron rods by motorcycle-borne assailants in Jamdoli on Wednesday night. A woman who rushed to help them was also shot in the leg before the attackers fled with jewellery.Sonu Swarnkar (Soni), 35, and Nishu Soni, 38, were returning home on a scooter after closing their showroom, S R Jewellers, when three or four men attacked them around 8pm. The assault took place about 700 metres from their home in Radha Govind Vihar, police said.The attackers opened fire, knocking the brothers off their scooter, and then tried to snatch a bag containing jewellery. When the brothers resisted, the assailants beat them with iron rods and sticks. The family alleged that the attackers escaped with two small jewellery boxes and a gold chain.Their cries for help drew Seema Gupta, 32, who lives opposite the spot. She ran towards the attackers carrying stones, but they allegedly shot her in the leg before fleeing as people began gathering.All three injured people were taken to SMS Hospital. CCTV footage of the attack has also emerged.Nishu said the assault began on a poorly lit stretch about 250 metres from the showroom. He told police that as soon as they reached the area, three or four men carrying iron rods suddenly approached him and his elder brother.The brothers shouted for help before the assailants opened fire. Nishu said one of the attackers fired a second shot at him. The men continued beating the brothers for nearly three minutes, he said.Jamdoli police are investigating the attack.
