Ex-MLA Gunjal booked in Kota over video-linked threat speech to Birla’s OSD

KOTA: Former MLA Prahalad Gunjal has been booked at Kota’s Ranpur police station under multiple provisions, including extortion and using criminal force, after a video clip surfaced showing him allegedly issuing threats against Rajiv Dutta, OSD to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The case relates to a gathering held on Oct 21 in Kolana village in Pipalda tehsil of Kota district, where Gunjal was purportedly recorded making remarks warning of consequences after a political change in the state. In the 1.16-minute clip, filmed at night under halogen light without clearly showing his face, he allegedly said he would “ruin” Dutta’s life and claimed Dutta would be driven to consider suicide or violence.Police registered the FIR on a complaint by constable Pushpendra Chaudhary, adding sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Representation of the People Act. A pen drive containing the footage has been seized as evidence, citing unauthorised gathering and poll guideline violations as panchayat elections are currently under way. Gunjal denied wrongdoing, saying the event was not a formal assembly.
