Jaipur: Around 40,000 students in state govt schools have been identified for further eye tests after preliminary screening flagged possible vision problems. The number is expected to rise as the screening continues. The initiative is part of the state govt’s Budget 2026-27 announcement to organise health and eye check-up camps for govt and private school students, with a target of screening around 75,000 students and providing spectacles to those who need them.In the first phase, teachers used Snellen charts to conduct preliminary eye screening of students. Students were asked to read letters or identify the direction of symbols on the chart from a distance of six metres. Those unable to do so correctly were shortlisted for further medical examination. An education department official said students flagged in the first phase will be referred to ophthalmologists at the nearest primary health centres. They will undergo detailed examinations to determine whether they need spectacles or further treatment.
