Udaipur CGST Superintendent Sanwalram Detained, As Bribe Was Allegedly Taken On His BehalfUdaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau set a trap in Rajsamand Tuesday, catching alleged middlemen Sushil Pareek and Anil Pareek while taking what investigators say was the first instalment of a Rs 60 lakh bribe meant to fix GST show-cause notices worth Rs 3.12 crore.The operation allegedly revealed a nexus between the middlemen and Superintendent of CGST Udaipur, Sanwalram. According to ACB officials, Anil directed Sushil to collect the hefty bribe intended for Sanwalram, who is believed to have facilitated preferential treatment in exchange for the money.Sushil was caught accepting the first instalment of Rs 25 lakh, which led to further investigations. Following this, ACB officials detained Sanwalram in Suket, Kota, based on information provided by their Rajsamand unit. Sanwalram was being brought back to Rajsamand for interrogation, the ACB officials said.ACB officers said the deal was pitched to a complainant as a way to secure a favourable settlement and slash the tax exposure across multiple firms. The price for the “settlement,” according to the bureau, had been settled at Rs 60 lakh.The operation was spearheaded by ACB deputy inspector general Rameshwar Singh and Rajsamand ACB additional superintendent of police Himmat Singh. In addition to the arrests, ACB teams, including one led by additional superintendent Anant Kumar, conducted raids at Sanwalram’s residence in Udaipur to gather more evidence.The bureau said it was questioning the two alleged middlemen to uncover the identities of any other departmental officers or employees who might be complicit in the extensive bribery racket.
