Jaipur: A long-standing property dispute turned fatal in Bani Park Tuesday when a 58-year-old man, recently released on bail in a 24-year-old dowry case, allegedly stabbed his elder brother to death.The victim, 65-year-old Shyam Bagani, was heading to a temple around 7.30am when his younger brother, Murli Kumar, intercepted him near the latter’s Sindhi Colony residence.Following a heated argument on the road opposite Ram Park—roughly 300 metres from Shyam’s house—Murli allegedly struck him with a wooden stick and stabbed him. Shyam was rushed to SMS Hospital where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Police have since taken Murli into custody for questioning.Bani Park SHO Suresh Yadav said the brothers had been involved in a prolonged conflict over inherited property, though police were yet to determine the exact nature of the dispute. Investigators said there were originally three brothers, but the eldest had died, leaving the other two embroiled in the feud.Police disclosed that Murli had spent roughly 24 years residing abroad before returning to Jaipur a few months ago following business setbacks. While his wife and children remained overseas, Murli launched a new business locally. Additionally, he faced charges in a 24-year-old dowry case filed by his first wife.Police arrested him on Sept 6 after they learnt of his return to India, and he was remanded to judicial custody before being granted bail just three days prior to the incident.Police and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams have processed the crime scene and gathered evidence. Investigators continue to interrogate Murli to determine whether any additional motives contributed to the fatal attack beyond the property clash.“The accused made multiple fatal blows which led to the death of the victim in the hospital,” said an official.
