Alwar: Bansur police Monday arrested a man for allegedly murdering his 72-year-old grandfather, retired Rajasthan Police head constable Govardhan Singh, following a dispute over pension and crop money in Dakoda village of Kotputli-Behror district.Police said Ankit removed CCTV equipment and the digital video recorder from the house after the murder. His father, Sundar Singh, allegedly moved the body about 500 metres from the house in an attempt to destroy evidence and is being questioned in custody.Bansur station house officer Rajesh Kumar said Govardhan’s son Dariyab Singh, a Neemrana resident, lodged a report on Sept 22 stating that unidentified persons had murdered his father. The body was found about 500 metres from Govardhan’s house.Investigators learnt that Govardhan’s sons, Dariyab and Sundar, lived in Neemrana. After his wife died in 2023, Govardhan bought land in Dakoda and began living there. Police said he did not give his pension money to his sons.Police detained Sundar’s son Ankit on suspicion. During questioning, Ankit admitted to the murder and cited a continuing dispute with his grandfather over pension and crop money, police said. The CCTV equipment and recorder were recovered from his possession.According to police, Govardhan had called his sons and grandsons to Dakoda on Sept 14 to harvest bajra. The family returned to Neemrana on Sept 20. The following day, Ankit told his family that he was visiting Mohanram Baba Tapobhoomi in Bhiwadi but instead reached Dakoda and entered the house by scaling a wall.Police said Ankit struck Govardhan twice on the head with an axe. After its wooden handle broke, he allegedly attacked him repeatedly with a stick, killing him.Ankit then called his mother and informed her about the murder, police said. She asked him to return to Neemrana. Sundar and Ankit’s mother reached Dakoda on Sept 22, after which Sundar allegedly moved the body. He later informed Dariyab and villagers about the murder.
