Jaisalmer: A 22-year-old man died under suspicious circumstances at his in-laws’ house in Udasar village under Sadar police station area of Barmer district on Monday, 10 months after his marriage.The deceased was identified as Rugaram, son of Khumaram, a resident of Nosar village in Baytu. His family alleged that he was murdered by his wife and her family members and that his body was dumped in a water tank to make the death appear like an accidental drowning.Rugaram’s father said a case had been registered against his son’s wife, mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law. The body was kept in the mortuary of Barmer District Hospital and handed over to the family after a post-mortem by a medical board on Tuesday.According to Sadar police, Rugaram had gone to his in-laws’ house on Sunday. On Monday, police received information that he had died after falling into a water tank. A police team reached the spot and found the body lying outside the tank. His parents were informed, and the body was shifted to the Barmer hospital mortuary.The family alleged that Rugaram had returned to his village on Sunday but was called back to his in-laws’ house by his wife on the phone. They said he reached there around midnight.Family members said they were later told that Rugaram had fallen into the water tank. However, when they reached the spot, they found the body lying outside the tank and noticed injury marks on his head and hands.Sadar police station sub-inspector Jitendra Singh said the family had lodged a report against four members of the deceased’s in-laws’ family and that the police are investigating the cause of death.“A case has been registered and the post-mortem was conducted by a medical board on Tuesday. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem. The matter is being investigated from all angles,” Singh said.
