Jaipur: Directorate of Local Bodies secretary Ravi Jain visited Sethi Complex at Purohit Ji Ka Katla Saturday and inspected the site following the fire that broke out there on Sept 17. Eighteen shops in the complex were destroyed in the blaze. Jain took stock of the damage and sought details from officials about the incident and action taken so far.Meanwhile, the state govt Friday ordered a high-level inquiry into the fire at Sethi Complex in Purohit Ji Ka Katla, amid allegations of lapses in fire safety arrangements. Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s chief fire officer (CFO) Devendra Kumar Meena has been suspended with immediate effect for alleged irregularities, negligence and violation of departmental orders. The role of AFO Kuldeep is also under scrutiny.A three-member committee has been formed to examine the circumstances leading to the fire and fix responsibility. It will be headed by an additional director of Directorate of Local Bodies (DLB), with the DLB chief engineer and Udaipur Municipal Corporation CFO as members. The panel has been asked to submit its report within seven days.The committee will examine the building’s approved plan and use, fire NOC and safety certificate, previous inspections and notices, and whether the firefighting systems were available and functional. It will also check whether the rooftop restaurant had the required permissions and NOC, its approved capacity and access and exit arrangements, and whether any structural changes or additional load were created.DLB has also sought a factual report from JMC commissioner on the building approvals, fire safety records, inspections, rescue operation, casualties and property loss, besides action taken against the owner or operator. Meanwhile, a Human Rights Commission team inspected the site Friday. Fourteen hydrants installed under Smart City project were found non-functional.
