Jaipur: A man whose SUV was seized by Shyam Nagar police for drunk driving allegedly returned to the police station late at night, unlocked the vehicle with a spare key and drove it away with his friends — leaving police to discover the SUV missing the next morning. The accused, identified as a businessman, had been caught during a blockade Wednesday night while allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. Police seized his Scorpio and booked him under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The SUV was parked on the road outside the police station.Shyam Nagar station house officer Hari Singh Doohdwal said the accused was heavily drunk when police seized the vehicle. “He went home after the vehicle was seized and returned later with a spare key. Since the car was parked on the road, he unlocked it and drove away,” he said. Police later seized the vehicle again and registered a case against the accused. The incident has raised questions over the security of vehicles seized by police. Shyam Nagar police station operates from a small building with barely enough space to park police vehicles, leaving little room for seized vehicles. Police said they are forced to park seized vehicles on the road outside the station.
