Jaipur: Following repolling at five booths across four wards of Jaipur Municipal Corporation, Congress increased its seat tally by winning all four seats Thursday. Congress candidates Kailashi (ward 9), Vandita (ward 18), Rekha Devi (ward 25) and Suresh Yadav (ward 34) were declared winners, increasing the number of Congress councillors to 57 from 53. BJP, however, holds 78 seats, and independent candidates have 15.

After the results for these four wards, results for all 150 wards of Jaipur Municipal Corporation have been declared.Of the results declared Thursday, ward 9 from Murlipura civic zone and ward 18 of Vidyadhar Nagar civic zone fall under Vidyadhar Nagar assembly constituency, while ward 25 from Jhotwara civic zone and ward 34 from Vaishali Nagar civic zone fall under Jhotwara assembly constituency.With the latest results, BJP won 12 of 22 Jaipur wards in deputy chief minister Diya Kumari’s Vidyadhar Nagar constituency, while Congress and independent candidates won 10 wards. In minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore’s Jhotwara constituency, out of 15 wards, BJP has won seven, while Congress and independents have won eight.TOI tried reaching the teams of both the ministers for comments, but did not get a response till filing of this copy.

Congress said the victory proves that the election process was manipulated in Jaipur and EVM machines were reset in areas where Congress was winning.“Why were EVMs found to be not working in areas where Congress was winning? This only means that the election process was manipulated and EVMs were reset for areas where Congress was sure of victory,” said Sunil Sharma, Congress district president for Jaipur.Jaipur BJP unit said the party could have secured more seats if rebels were fewer, but claimed that many independents are supporting it. “Of the 15 independent candidates who have won, 12 were BJP party workers but contested as independent rebels. All of them are now supporting the party again. Repolling at wards shows that the system is transparent,” said Amit Goyal, Jaipur city BJP president.
