Man dies by suicide in Barmer, family alleges harassment over land dispute
Villagers hold a sit-in outside district hospital mortuary Tuesday

Jaisalmer: A 44-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in the Barmer Gadan village area Monday afternoon.The deceased, Devi Singh, son of Kabiraram, was a resident of Gangasara and was living in Barmer Gadan. He had gone to his sister-in-law’s house with his wife. After some time, he told his wife that he was going to the bathroom and went outside. When he did not return, his wife started searching for him and found him hanging from a Rohida tree in a nearby field.Though Singh was rushed to the district hospital, doctors declared him dead. His body has been kept in the hospital mortuary.Singh’s family members alleged that some local people had been harassing him over a land dispute and named Dewaram, Hindusingh, Gajesingh and others in their complaint. They later protested outside the mortuary demanding action against them.Sadar police station ASI Daduram said police were trying to pacify the family members and were looking into the allegations.
