Jaisalmer: In a major security lapse, a murder convict has escaped from the Barmer Open Jail. The incident came to light during Friday morning attendance. The absconding prisoner has been identified as Bhavesh alias Bunty.Jail administration officers said that during the routine attendance roll call on Friday, Bhavesh was found missing. On checking, it was confirmed that he had escaped.The jail administration made efforts to trace him at possible locations and hideouts, but no clue about his whereabouts was found until Saturday. Following the incident, the deputy superintendent of the district jail sent an official letter to Barmer Kotwali Police Station, and an FIR was registered Saturday.Teams are examining the circumstances under which the prisoner managed to flee. An Open Jail is operational in Barmer, under which prisoners with good conduct who have completed a certain part of their sentence are shifted, where they are allowed to work and live with certain relaxations and are expected to mark attendance regularly.
