Jhunjhunu: Family members and villagers staged a dharna outside Sikar’s Rajkiya Janana Hospital Thursday after a woman who had recently given birth died following complications during treatment, alleging medical negligence and demanding action against the hospital staff as well as compensation for her family. The deceased, Deepa, was admitted to the hospital on July 20 and underwent a Caesarean delivery the following day. Her husband, Lalchand, a resident of Ranoli, alleged that she was recovering well in the general ward after the surgery until her condition suddenly deteriorated after she was administered an injection by the nursing staff on July 22. According to Lalchand, Deepa developed breathing difficulty, severe body pain and other complications soon after the injection. He alleged that despite repeated requests by the family, doctors did not attend to her promptly and treatment was delayed. The family further alleged that although Deepa’s condition continued to worsen, she was not referred to Jaipur immediately. Instead, treatment continued at the hospital for several hours. Later, she was shifted in an ambulance for referral, but was taken to the trauma centre of Govt SK Hospital in Sikar, where doctors declared her dead. Holding the hospital administration responsible, Lalchand alleged that negligence by the medical staff led to his wife’s death. He said the family has been left in distress as the couple has two young daughters, and his father is mentally unwell. He demanded strict action against those responsible and financial assistance for the children’s future. Villagers who joined the protest also accused the hospital administration of failing to provide timely treatment and referral. Sagar Khokhar, one of the protesters, alleged that attempts were made to conceal lapses in treatment. The protesters demanded a fair investigation, legal action against the erring medical personnel and adequate compensation for the bereaved family. The family said it would lodge a police complaint over the incident. When contacted, hospital doctor Dr Rajesh Kumar said he would comment after completing an official video conference with senior authorities.
