Jaipur: A 30-year-old woman from Gangapur area of Bhilwara district died Monday within hours of giving birth to a baby through normal delivery, marking the fifth maternal death reported in the district this month. Four maternal deaths were already recorded from Bhilwara in the first week of July.Seema delivered the baby at the community health centre in Gangapur. She was resident of the same town. Health department officials said her condition deteriorated after she developed postpartum haemorrhage, a severe bleeding complication that can occur after childbirth.She was referred to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Bhilwara, attached to the govt medical college, for advanced treatment. “The woman was referred from Gangapur. She came with postpartum haemorrhage. We immediately admitted her to the ICU, but she could not survive,” Dr Arun Gaur, superintendent of MG Hospital, Bhilwara, told TOI Tuesday.Doctors at MG Hospital said the woman was already critical when she was brought in. She lost a significant amount of blood, and her condition progressed to irreversible shock caused by severe blood loss.Medical officials said irreversible shock results in prolonged cellular hypoxia and metabolic acidosis. In such a condition, vital organs, including the kidneys, liver and heart, suffer severe ischaemic damage. Even if blood volume and pressure are later restored, the damage may be too extensive, leading to multiple organ failure.Officials said the pregnancy was not categorised as high-risk, and the delivery progressed normally until the baby was born. The complication developed after childbirth. Doctors at the Gangapur community health centre, facing limited resources to manage such a critical emergency, referred her to the higher centre without delay.The death has added to concerns over maternal care and emergency obstetric response in Bhilwara, where five women have died due to pregnancy- or childbirth-related complications within a short span.
