JAIPUR: The family of nine-year-old Amaira Meena, who died after allegedly jumping from the fourth floor of Neerja Modi School last year, has alleged that the police chargesheet filed in the case is incomplete and demanded the arrest of all those they hold responsible, including the school’s principal and founder.Addressing a press conference along with members of Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh, Amaira’s parents said newly surfaced CCTV footage and findings related to the school’s functioning raised serious questions about institutional accountability and child safety.Family alleges CCTV shows sudden distressAmaira, a Class 4 student, allegedly jumped from the school building on November 1 last year. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.According to the family, CCTV footage from the day shows Amaira spending the morning like any other child — dancing, chatting with classmates, laughing and eating chocolates and golgappa before 11am.However, they alleged that her behaviour changed abruptly afterwards.The family said the footage shows Amaira becoming visibly distressed inside the classroom following an incident involving classmates. They alleged that heated exchanges took place among students and that a digital slate on which a group of boys reportedly wrote or drew something left her embarrassed and upset.They further alleged that Amaira appeared confused and disturbed after the incident and that her class teacher, Punita Sharma, failed to intervene despite her condition.Father seeks additional chargesAmaira’s father, Vijay Meena, said the family was fighting not only for justice for their daughter but also for the safety, accountability and rights of every child studying in schools.“The chargesheet appears to be incomplete. The offence of abetment of suicide can also be added against the class teacher. At the same time, Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act should be invoked against the school owner and principal, which, in the chargesheet, is against the teacher only,” he said.Meena said the responsibility for child safety, protection and well-being on school premises rested with the school management.He also said three investigating officers had been changed over the past eight months and appealed to the court to take note of deficiencies in the chargesheet, add the relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act against the principal and the school owner, and ensure the arrest of the accused.Parents question omissions in chargesheetThe family alleged that the chargesheet omitted the names of school principal Indu Dubey and founder Saurabh Modi despite what they described as evidence pointing to institutional negligence.“Filing the chargesheet is an important step, but justice will remain incomplete unless every person responsible is made an accused and arrested in accordance with the law,” Vijay Meena said.Amaira’s mother, Shivani Meena, alleged that her daughter repeatedly showed signs of distress but the school failed to respond adequately.She called for an impartial investigation and stronger mechanisms in schools to prevent bullying and protect children.Parents’ body alleges irregularitiesSanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh on Friday also demanded an impartial investigation into alleged irregularities in teacher appointments, qualifications and regulatory compliance at Neerja Modi School, saying accountability must be fixed if mandatory norms were violated.The organisation’s spokesperson, Abhishek Jain Bittu, cited documents placed before the Rajasthan High Court and alleged large-scale irregularities in teacher recruitment and qualifications at the school.“CBSE inspection records reflected a sharp change in teacher strength between the academic sessions 2024-25 and 2025-26 and several appointment letters and qualification records were not produced during inspection,” he claimed.He demanded an independent, transparent and time-bound inquiry into teacher qualifications, staffing practices, child safety mechanisms and overall regulatory compliance at the school.Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh president Arvind Agrawal said the case raised wider concerns over accountability in private schools.“This is not just one family’s fight. Unless negligence by school managements is dealt with firmly, similar incidents may recur,” Agrawal said.
