Ajmer: Tensions flared at the JLN Hospital Tuesday morning as relatives of slain dacoit Jagan Gurjar gathered at the mortuary, demanding answers and justice following his murder while in judicial custody at the Ajmer high-security jail a day earlier. The murder sparked outrage among family members and the Gurjar community, who assembled from Ajmer, Bhilwara and neighbouring districts to stage a dharna outside the govt hospital.Asa Ram, Gurjar’s son, accused authorities of conspiring to kill his father and calledfor a CBI inquiry into the murder. “We demand a CBI investigation and want the CCTV footage preserved, as the killing of my father is a conspiracy,” Asa Ram said, voicing concerns about the safety of his family. The Civil Lines police, which already opened a murder case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Gurjar’s death, recorded statements of the deputy superintendent of the high-security jail, along with other staff members. Furthermore, items linked to the murder, such as towels, were confiscated for probe.Jagan Gurjar’s brother, Pappu Gurjar, also incarcerated in the Ajmer jail, sought permission to attend his brother’s funeral, set to take place in their home village of Bhavutipura, Dholpur district. The family raised concerns regarding threats Gurjar allegedly faced while imprisoned, which previous reports to jail officials failed to address. The relatives submitted a memorandum to police and local administrative officials addressed to the Rajasthan Chief Minister, urging a thorough investigation and enhanced security for Gurjar’s family. They also requested that Pappu be transferred to Dholpur Jail for his safety. The situation prompted a heavy police presence at the hospital to prevent potential unrest. Deputy SP Manish Badgujjar engaged with the grieving family, assuring them that their demands would be communicated to the govt and that an inquiry into any possible negligence by jail staff would be initiated.By evening, an agreement was reached that included increased security for Gurjar’s family and provisions for parole for his three brothers to attend the funeral, along with a commitment to investigate the alleged involvement of prison personnel in the murder.
