Alwar: Dholpur police Wednesday arrested Robin Singh (40), a most-wanted criminal carrying a Rs 35,000 reward and the main shooter in the 2012 murder of student leader Naresh Kushwah, after he remained absconding for 14 years. Acting under the direction of SP Vikas Sangwan, the cyber cell team nabbed the accused from a toll plaza near the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district.Police said Kushwah was shot dead on Dec 27, 2012, by Robin Singh along with his associate Satendra Singh, a former soldier. Other accused in the case, including former MLA B.L. Kushwah, Shivram Kushwah and Jeetu, had earlier been arrested, with the former MLA sentenced to life imprisonment.According to investigators, Robin Singh evaded arrest by frequently changing his identity, residence and even his children’s names. He initially hid in Nepal and later moved across several states, and was reportedly planning plastic surgery to alter his appearance.Police said the team tracked the accused over nearly 6,000 kms and analysed CCTV footage from more than 500 toll plazas. During the operation, personnel posed as workers at tea stalls and transport firms to gather leads.Officials said the accused was planning to undergo plastic surgery after the reward on him was increased, but was arrested before he could do so.SP Sangwan praised the team and said they would be rewarded. Constable Harvendra Singh was mentioned for his key role in the operation.
