SC grants conditional bail to accused in Raju Theth murder case

Jaipur: The Supreme Court of India Friday granted conditional bail to Sarjeet Singh, an accused in the sensational Raju Theht murder case. He was arrested for allegedly providing mobile phones to the shooters who eliminated Raju Theth outside his house in Sikar. The relief came from a bench of Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, primarily on grounds of prolonged incarceration and slow progress of trial.Appearing for the petitioner, advocate Namit Saxena argued that Sarjeet Singh was in custody for over three years and the case against him was largely based on circumstantial evidence. “Despite 154 prosecution witnesses, only a small fraction have been examined, indicating that the trial will take considerable time,” he argued.Significantly, Sarjeet’s bail pleas were rejected multiple times earlier. As per records, his first bail application was dismissed by the trial court on May 29, 2023, followed by rejection by the Rajasthan High Court on May 28, 2024. A subsequent plea was withdrawn, while another bail application was again rejected by the trial court on May 9, 2025. His second bail application was also dismissed by the High Court on Oct 7, 2025, citing seriousness of allegations and lack of change in circumstances. However, the Supreme Court took a different view, observing that only 16 out of 154 witnesses have been examined so far, with 138 still pending, making early conclusion of trial unlikely.Gangster Raju Theth was shot dead outside his residence in Sikar on Dec 3, 2022, in a preplanned attack linked to rival criminal gangs. The trial in the case is ongoing.
