Bundi/Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Wednesday directed Water Resources Department (WRD) officials to complete the three-storey Chambal Aqueduct Project—part of the Ram Jal Setu Link Project (Modified Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Integrated ERCP)—before the 2027 deadline.“The Ram Jal Setu Link Project is one of the most significant initiatives of the state govt. It is aimed at strengthening water availability across eastern Rajasthan. The project is expected to ensure adequate drinking and irrigation water supply to 17 districts, benefiting nearly 40% of the state’s population,” Sharma said after inspecting the site at Guhata village in Bundi.Engineers said the 2,280-metre aqueduct will connect Samel village in Pipalda (Kota) and Guhata village in Bundi, transferring water from the Kalishindh Barrage to Mej Island without disturbing the Chambal River ecosystem. The river stretch is a protected crocodile reserve. The project covers 17 districts—Bundi, Jhalawar, Kota, Baran, Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli, Dungarpur, Ajmer, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Jaipur, Beawar, Kotputli-Behror, Dholpur and Kherthal-Tijara—and is expected to supply drinking water to about 3.25 lakh people. Irrigation water is planned for more than 2.8 lakh hectares, with industrial areas also to receive water.“Under the scheme, water will be supplied to Bisalpur and Isarda dams through a lift system. In fact, the project will help to fill up the historic Ramgarh Lake in Jaipur yet again,” an engineer said.Sharma performed a ceremonial puja of the aqueduct pier, reviewed an on-site exhibition on progress and design, and planted a tree at the site.WRD minister Suresh Singh Rawat, minister of State for Energy (Independent Charge) Hiralal Nagar and WRD secretary Abhay Kumar were present.
