Ajmer: Police Sunday said Manju (25), whose three children drowned in a water tank in Baswani village in Nagaur district, told investigators that her daughter Gunjan, 4, slipped into the tank Friday evening, prompting her to jump in to save her. Manju said her other daughter Anushka, 5, and her son Rudra, 1, then followed into the tank.Police said Manju, pulled out of the tank in critical condition, gave her statement while “constantly weeping” at the district hospital where she was admitted Friday night. Police added that, considering her mental condition, she was shifted to the hospital’s prisoner cell.Police quoted Manju as saying, “All 3 children were playing, and during that time, Gunjan (4) slipped into the water tank. There was about 5 feet of water in the tank, and seeing Gunjan drowning in the water, I also jumped into the tank. I was desperately trying to save my daughter, but I did not know how to swim. Therefore, my breathing went out of control and I fainted in the water. After some time, I became conscious again. I did not know after how much time, but I found that the bodies of all my 3 children were floating (in the tank)”On Saturday evening, Manju’s husband, Ram Prasad Meghwal, performed the last rites of the three children. He said he was in Kota for work and was told to return to his native village because his children were ill, but when he reached village Saturday, he found that all three had died.
