Jaipur: A 27-year-old wanted drug trafficker carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 was arrested after a gunfight with police during an operation in Sangaria town of Hanumangarh district on Friday night.Hanumangarh SP, Hari Shankar said the accused, Rajvir alias Lucky Jhorad, a resident of Tibbi area, sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire and was taken into custody. A police station in-charge narrowly escaped a grievous injury in the gunfight, the SP said. Police said teams from Sangaria police station, Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and District Special Team (DST) were conducting a search operation near the Tarmala culvert after receiving inputs about armed drug traffickers entering Rajasthan from Punjab. The accused allegedly opened fire on noticing police pickets. Two bullets hit the bulletproof jacket of SHO Amar Singh, narrowly averting serious injury. In retaliation, police fired three rounds, one of which struck the accused in the leg, after which he was overpowered, officials said. He was admitted to the govt district hospital in Hanumangarh town for primary treatment. The SP said a country-made pistol was seized from the accused, and the crime scene was examined by a forensic science laboratory team. Senior police officers inspected the site the same night. Police said the accused was wanted in multiple cases, including an attempted murder and Arms Act case registered in 2024 at Tibbi police station and an NDPS Act case registered in 2023 at Sangaria police station. He is alleged to be involved in organised narcotics trafficking and to have links with criminal gangs operating across Haryana, Punjab and other states. Following the gunfight, a fresh case was registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Further investigation is being carried out by Hanumangarh Junction police station, officials said.
