80 vehicle thefts cracked, 51 bikes recovered; two held

Jaipur: City police have arrested two alleged vehicle thieves and recovered 51 stolen motorcycles, claiming to have cracked around 80 motorcycle theft cases in Jaipur and other districts.The accused have been identified as Sher Singh (26) and Kamaljeet alias Kamal (33), both residents of Sawai Madhopur district.DCP (Jaipur East) Ranjita Sharma said they were arrested by Pratap Nagar police.Police said Kamaljeet had been absconding in several vehicle theft cases in Jaipur and had arrest warrants pending against him.Sharma said the arrests followed an operation to identify and apprehend vehicle thieves. A team examined around 100 CCTV cameras, identified theft hotspots and deployed personnel in plain clothes.Police said the breakthrough came after constable Kedar received information about the accused. During questioning, they allegedly confessed to stealing around 80 motorcycles from areas under Pratap Nagar, Malpura Gate, Sanganer Sadar, Shipra Path, Shivdaspura, Chaksu and other police stations. Fifty-one motorcycles were subsequently recovered.The investigation began after Girraj Prasad Saini (41) from Dausa reported that his motorcycle had been stolen outside RUHS Hospital in Pratap Nagar on July 20. Saini had parked near Gate 3 and gone to buy juice for his son, who was undergoing treatment at State Cancer Hospital. He returned about five minutes later to find the motorcycle missing. Police later recovered the bike.Police said the accused had moved to Jaipur and were living in rented accommodation in Muhana and Sanganer while working in catering. They allegedly began stealing motorcycles to make quick money, scouting vehicles parked in isolated places and breaking handle locks. They allegedly removed number plates, stored the bikes at secluded locations and sold them according to demand.Police said the accused were arrested near Chinav Apartment along Dravyavati river while allegedly trying to sell a stolen motorcycle.Four other motorcycles stolen from Jaipur had earlier been seized by police in Sawai Madhopur district and were later found to be linked to Jaipur theft cases.Police said Kamaljeet had previously been arrested in vehicle theft, Arms Act and other theft cases since 2014 and was wanted in cases registered in Chaksu and Sanganer Sadar. Sher Singh has an assault case registered in Malarna Dungar.The two are being questioned to recover more stolen vehicles.
