Jaisalmer: Police seized 2,248 cans of beer concealed in specially built secret compartments of a trailer on the Bharatmala Expressway in Barmer district and arrested its driver for allegedly attempting to smuggle the consignment to Gujarat.The operation was carried out by Dhanau police and the district special team (DST) following a tip-off.Barmer superintendent of police Chunaram Jat said the trailer initially appeared empty during inspection. However, suspecting foul play, the police used cutting tools and hammers to open hidden cavities fabricated inside the vehicle. The search led to the recovery of 2,248 cans of Rajasthan-manufactured Kingfisher beer allegedly being transported illegally to Gujarat.The accused, identified as Genaram Jat (26), son of Asuram Jat and a resident of Ratasar village under Bijrad police station in Barmer district, was arrested. Police also seized the trailer.The concealed liquor was allegedly being transported without a valid licence. A case was registered under the Rajasthan Excise Act. Police are investigating the source of the consignment and trying to identify others involved in the smuggling network.
