2 labourers rescued after Jaipur sewer cave-in

Jaipur: Two labourers were rescued after being trapped under a mound of soil when a 20-foot-deep pit caved in while they were installing a sewer chamber in Jaipur’s Karni Vihar area Sunday evening. Both suffered minor injuries and were admitted to SMS Hospital, police said.The incident occurred around 5pm near Alankar Morh in Meenawala, where a new sewer line was being laid. According to police, the labourers had entered the pit to install a sewer chamber when the surrounding soil suddenly collapsed, burying them under the debris.Co-workers immediately raised an alarm and alerted police. With the help of workers at the site, police rescued both men within about five minutes and rushed them to SMS Hospital.Police said the swift rescue operation averted a major tragedy. Both labourers are undergoing treatment and are stated to have sustained only minor injuries. The exact cause of the cave-in is being investigated.
