Jaisalmer: A youth from Pokhran town in Jaisalmer was arrested Thursday by the cybercrime team of Sadar police station, Nagpur, Maharashtra, in connection with a major fraud case involving crores of rupees.Acting on a tip-off that four suspects from Pokhran were wanted for their involvement in an online fraud, the Nagpur police team arrived in the town early in the morning and coordinated with local police to apprehend the accused. The police had learned that the suspects would be present at the court premises for a hearing. Both teams increased surveillance in and around the court. As soon as the accused spotted the police, they attempted to flee. A dramatic chase ensued at the main intersection of the town, during which police managed to apprehend Ajay Vishnoi, a resident of Khetolai. His three associates, identified as Manish from Dholiya, Anil from Jaluwala, and Sunil, managed to escape despite a pursuit that extended up to Jainarayan Vyas Circle. According to Pokaran deputy superintendent of police Bhawani Singh, police only nabbed Ajay, while others remain at large. Ajay was handed over to Nagpur police after being presented in Pokhran court which granted his transit remand, he said. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Ajay and his associates were running an online fraud operation, duping people of crores of rupees by luring them into performing fake online tasks. Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the remaining three accused. The police have conducted searches at several locations in and around Pokaran with the cooperation of the local police. The authorities have intensified their investigation to dismantle the entire network and recover the defrauded money. The arrest highlights the growing menace of cybercrime and the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between police forces across states. The case remains under investigation as police continue their search for the absconding members of the gang.
