Woman files FIR against daughter-in-law after son dies by suicide

Jaipur: Upset over his wife leaving him, a 30-year-old man died by suicide on June 12 by hanging himself in a room adjacent to his house. His mother filed an FIR at the Sanganer Sadar police station on Wednesday, alleging abetment to suicide.Police said the deceased, Mahendra Kumar, ended his life while his children were playing inside the house. The children began screaming after seeing their father hanging. Hearing their cries, neighbours rushed to the scene and alerted the police. The FIR was registered on the basis of a suicide note recovered by the police and a complaint filed by the deceased’s mother, Bhagwati. She alleged that her daughter-in-law was in contact with another man—whom she met through work—for the past two years. She further claimed that the woman would regularly abuse and physically assault Mahendra, leading to his emotional deterioration. In the two-page suicide note, Mahendra reportedly expressed anguish over his wife’s departure and said he could no longer find the will to live. Despite learning of her husband’s death, the woman did not return home, the mother alleged. Mahendra worked as a labourer and lived with his two young sons. “On June 12, he was at home with the children. In the afternoon, he hanged himself with a scarf in an outer room,” said an official. The children discovered him and cried out, prompting neighbours to intervene and call the police.
