Wife, paramour held for abetment of man’s suicide

Jaisalmer: Barmer police arrested a man’s wife and her alleged lover for abetment of suicide in the Sawairam death case reported from Manglasar Konra on March 12, officials said Friday. The accused, identified as Samda Meghwal and Shakardeen, were held following a week-long probe that ruled out murder and pointed to sustained harassment.Acting SP Nitish Arya said a team led by Circle Officer Jetharam Meghwal cracked the case within seven days. Sawairam was found dead near his house, initially under suspicious circumstances, after which his brother Madan lodged a complaint alleging murder by the duo. A medical board conducted the post-mortem. Investigators said findings confirmed death by suicide. Probe revealed Sawairam was distressed over his wife’s alleged extramarital relationship with Shakardeen, a neighbour. Police said frequent disputes had occurred, including on the day of the incident, when a heated argument allegedly led to threats being issued to the deceased. Officers said the relationship had continued for nearly two years and had earlier reached the police station, where a compromise was made. “The deceased had become an obstacle,” a senior officer said, adding that sustained mental pressure drove him to take the extreme step. A case has been registered. Both accused are being interrogated. Sawairam is survived by his wife and four children.
