Jaipur: Heavy rainfall Wednesday morning left several parts of Jaipur waterlogged, with knee-deep water reported in low-lying areas of the Walled City. Roads turned into pools, restricting movement in areas such as Ramganj, Nai ki Thadi, Jaisinghpura Khor, Subhash Chowk, Chandi ki Taksal, and Brahmapuri.Residents said they had to wade through three feet of water to move around, with no civic teams arriving by evening to pump out the water. “Water did not enter houses, but the drainage system is so poor that it cannot withstand a few hours of rain. Taking out vehicles was risky, so we had to walk through water to move between lanes,” said Dinesh Saini, a resident of Jaisinghpura Khor.Outside the Walled City, JLN Marg, Tonk Road, and New Sanganer Road also witnessed severe waterlogging. During office hours, cars had their tyres submerged, and two-wheelers struggled to navigate the roads.“If drains were cleaned properly, water would clear out in an hour or two, but some areas have been waterlogged for three days, and today’s rain worsened the situation. Potholes are also developing, and volunteers are managing traffic near the bigger ones to avoid accidents,” said Jitendra Bisht, a resident of Mangalam Aananda in Sanganer. At the state secretariat, the roof of the SSO building partially collapsed, and plaster fell off in front of the Main Building. Officials said teams had been deployed to clear drains to help water recede quickly.Amid heavy rain predictions, JMC Greater commissioner Gaurav Saini instructed all personnel to remain on active duty 24×7 and keep their phones switched on. He directed officials to ensure all resources are in working condition to respond to emergencies caused by heavy rains.“All personnel should remain on active mode and keep the phone on 24 hours. Chief sanitation inspectors, CSI, garage branch, and engineering wing should be ready with all resources to deal with situations arising out of heavy rains,” said Saini. In JMC Heritage areas, teams were deployed to clear garbage blocking drain openings. Sanitation workers were instructed to remove plastic and waste choking the drainage system to create pathways for rainwater to flow out.
